Luca Chiaraviglio from CNIT gave a talk at the ITU Kaleidoscope conference in Bangkok on 15th November for presenting the accepted paper entitled “5G in Rural and Low-Income Areas: Are We Ready?”. The conference has been run in conjunction with the ITU Telecom World, the premier forum on innovations in the Information and Communication Technology sector, attended by more than 4000 delegates, including Prime Ministers, government bodies, large industries and small and medium enterprises. The goal of the paper is to extend the coverage of the cellular networks also in rural and low-income areas, by exploiting key features of the 5G technology, including: flexibility, convergence, and exploitation of commodity hardware.
